For as long as I can remember, my mom always made this Easter-inspired treat for us … and then as we got older, we did it together. Now, I do it with my kids and can’t wait for it each year! Hopefully they will remember it as they grow up and will carry on the tradition! It is anย irresistible combination of chocolate and peanut butter melted together…well, just read on, you’ll see!
These are the ingredients you’ll need. It’s pretty simple, really.
One cup of smooth peanut butter
Three cups of chocolate chips
Melt them together over a double boiler
Then, in the mean time, place six shredded wheat bricks into two large zip lock bags (three in each one) and call your kids over.
Especially for boys, this is a great outlet for aggression, or a desire for them to show great strength, or just growl a lot while destroying something…
Smush, smush, smush the shredded wheat until it is no longer in any clumps.
While your children are occupied with the smushing activity, make sure the peanut butter and chocolate has fully melted together.
And combine the shredded wheat in the chocolate mixture little by little…this takes a while to incorporate it all. I found that using two spoons to “toss” it like a salad works well.
Then, scoop a spoonful of the mixture onto foil-lined cookie sheets and solicit your children’s help to place two jelly beans on top! You might have to dig a little hold in each one so that the bean doesn’t roll off. Please note, it is mean to have your kids do this and tell them that they can’t eat any. I know this from experience, so, I guess it’s best to plan on letting them have some! ๐
Place the cookie tray(s) in the fridge until they are firm-that you can pick one up off the foil and a) it’s cool to the touch and b) it doesn’t fall apart in your fingers.
This is what they look like when they are finished! And, yes! They are as delicious as they look!
Happy Springtime!

Those look fantastic! We’ll have to try them with SunButter – my oldest is allergic to peanuts, but I like to mix it up with other butters. Thanks for the inspiration!
Hey Joanna! Thanks for coming by! I’m glad to know there is an alternative to PB here. I was unaware of sunbutter, so, great! ๐ Have a great Wednesday!
