Some business has been going down around here. But only partly. If you have been tuning in to my blog lately, then you know that if I’m not posting about the Photo A Day Challenge or our weekly adventures to Garden of the Gods (which we didn’t do this week because of the nearby wildfires making for very poor air quality), then I am posting updates about the here’s and there’s of my button flower business which I have lovingly named Jen Blossom. Click on those links there to get a refresher on how it has come along, if you like!
Well, if I didn’t have one already, my neurosis about finding a buyer for my arrangements began last Saturday in Castle Rock. There is a wonderful establishment called, The Barn, that is for all intent and purposes, a seller of antiques. The unique part about it is that the inside is divided into perhaps 10 to 12 different specialty shops, each one owned by someone else and featuring a different style of product. Anyway, this post isn’t about The Barn, but I had stopped there to look for antique buttons and glass vases to hold my button flowers. The long and short of it is that my family and I fell in love with one of the shops as a very perfect venue for my button flower arrangements. Even Logan pointed at a shelf and said, “Mommy! This is where you should put your arrangements!”
I spoke with a couple of the nice sales associates and other shop owners who gave me the card of the woman who owns the shop that had gripped my heart. They also told me that she and I would quite possibly make a lovely business match made in heaven. I proudly handed them my card and was certain that I floated out of there…on the excitement of finding my first possible place to carry my button flower arrangements!
Blossom Tags: I’ve made these to hang around each arrangement. I think I’ve become very professional!
Oh yea, long and short, I never heard back from her. (Maybe she’s on vacation…) It’s only been a week, but, there is a lesson to be learned here. Or maybe five…
1. Rarely does success happen on the first try.
2. Just because she didn’t get back to me, doesn’t mean she hates my stuff!
3. Once I make an effort to connect with a shop owner, I must let it go.
4. Checking my email 57 1/2 times between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. will not make her respond any quicker…or at all! A watched pot never boils….right?
5. There is a lovely shop owner out there who will love my button flower arrangements as much as I do….she just doesn’t know it yet!
By the end of the day yesterday, I had made 4 possible business connections. I called a shop in Colorado Springs, one in Denver and one in Fort Collins. Why not just make my way up the Front Range, right? (The fourth one is still the girl in Castle Rock…she never actually told me, “no!”).
Oh there’s more…its about my fear of cold-calling! But that is for Part 2!
To be continued…here, in Part 2!
Don’t give up, my friend! It will happen! You are doing great! I’m not just saying that because you’re my friend. I promise. I love these button flower arrangements. They are super unique and creative! I’m so excited about this journey your pursuing. I have had MANY businesses and I can attest to the fact that they don’t gain success quickly. And honestly, that’s a good thing. Think of how overwhelming it would be if you had an influx of massive orders. It’s better for it to gain momentum over time little by little. You will continue to learn things as you go about things…trial and error are the best teachers of wisdom. Otherwise, I am here if you ever want to bounce an idea off of, etc. I will do my best to help cheer you on. Go Jen! 🙂 In the future, if or when we ever meet in ‘real’ life you will have to teach me how to make them. Who knows, you might need a helper in the future when your business starts booming. 😉 Keep on, keeping on! Hugs, girlfriend.
Wow, Shan! I can’t thank you enough for your support and encouragement. It means so much to me! You make a very valid point about how busy I could be and moving slow might be in my best interest right now. It’s easy to get hyper and excited. But I will just keep plugging along. I’m so grateful for you and that we can be friends! #mushmush! :)I will surely seek you help and keep you posted if something noteworthy comes up! hugs!
