When I was around 8-years-old, I had a pretty amazing talent! I could ride my bike without holding onto the handle bars! This trick was more than just lifting my hands up for a quick second and then holding on again, I could actually ride the significant distance of the road I grew up living on and even up around the corner! Look ma! No hands! As I rode, arms wide, shoulders back, chin held high, wind in my pig tails, I knew someone from the circus would happen upon me in my sleepy little Connecticut town. I knew they would recruit me because of my talent! I felt it. No one else could accomplish such a feat as this! Well, I waited, but never did make it into the circus. My spirit is not crushed. I knew that what I could do was special. Maybe my talents would just fit better someplace else.
As I look back on those days, I take it as a reminder that as kids, we never put limits on what we set our hearts and minds to do! We aspired to be the greatest at whatever struck our fancy at that given moment! While the innocence of childhood is a treasure, whose finding might grow more elusive with the passing of each year, why can’t we still, as grownups, seek for ourselves something greater? Why limit ourselves to titles of parent, homemaker, employee, driver, son, daughter, sister, brother, citizen? I’d like to ask you to look forward and anticipate greatness in whatever facet of your life, while still holding dear the many, many aspects of your youth that formed you and made you the way you are today. Want for that feeling that the world is yours, right at your finger tips, and nothing is in your way…
Waiting for the Circus was born from a blog that I started writing August 2010, after Logan started kindergarten. It was a chance for me to get my feelings and stories out in written form to document Logan’s kindergarten days, as well as the rest of our days around that. What ended up happening was my discovery that it is fun to write about anything and everything that happens upon my family and I.
It brings me great joy to write about these things. I look forward to it each day! I read recently a line that someone somewhere said, and it goes a little something like this. It’s not work if you have fun doing it. I mean to tell you, it is my desire to be the best wife, mother, friend, daughter, sister, barista that I can be, but now this has become my passion, too. If I can bring delight to your day by making you laugh or feel a stirring in your heart, then I have done what I’ve set out to do.
Please enjoy…
*I can’t begin to thank my amazing husband, Chris, for all the time he spent building this site, encouraging me to do it, and putting up with my shenanigans. He did an amazing job and how lucky am I to be married to my web designer? Love, love, love.
*My super-talented, sweet mom illustrated and painted the girl on the bike from her own memories of me as a rag-tag 8-year-old. Thank you, mom, for your time and commitment to making her so true. Love you!
