There’s a line from my most favorite movie ever, When Harry Met Sally, when Harry runs into Sally on an airplane six years after graduation when they drove from Chicago to New York together. They haven’t seen each other since. While leaning obnoxiously forward between her seat as well as the seat of gentleman next to her, Harry says, “You were going to be a gymnast.” And she says, “A journalist.” To which he responds, “Right, that’s what I said.”
I can’t tell you how many times this dialogue went through my mind while watching my boys enjoy their second week of gymnastics yesterday evening. Seeing their happy smiles and eager participation, I couldn’t help entertaining the thought of them growing up and becoming strong Olympian gymnasts! What if this is their future? I asked myself while sitting up in a hot, smelly, jam-packed viewing area with other eager moms vying for a glimpse of their offspring. What if they become Journalists?
You see, that’s where Harry and Sally kept jumbling my fast-forward-to-the-future-day-dreaming mindset. I almost sent a picture of the gym to my sister, who shares my affinity for the movie, with the caption, “Maybe one day they will be journalists?”
Its hard to get good photos from the viewing area upstairs because, besides the fact that its upstairs and behind glass, honestly, its very hard to get a front row seat. After the first week, we learned that immediately upon arriving at the gym, we go straight up to claim a seat right right before the wave of 4:30 parents start scouting for seats. I can tell sometimes it will work, sometimes it won’t. I’m not the only genius who came up with the idea of running up there first, you know.
But here are a few pictures that I managed to get and edit to make some what view-able….
Chris and I are so happy for the guys that they get to do gymnastics. They’ve never done anything like this before and to see them so excited about it is very fulfilling as a parent. If they are excited every Tuesday afternoon for it, than I am too! And who knows, maybe we do have a couple of blossoming journalists here in the making! 🙂
Yay! I’m so excited to have journalist nephews! 😉
