Week 3 of Adventure Explorers proved to be a little more tame than the first two. That’s ok! We probably could use the safety break. This isn’t to say that there wasn’t still a great amount of rock scurrying and wall scaling, just not as high up! I brought back some pictures! Take a look….!
Tour JeepĀ
Our entry into the park was slow-going because I had the lucky fortune of getting to drive behind this tour jeep that reads, “Get Your Slice of Adventures!” How enticing…but sorry folks, I get my fill of adventures with my guys off on our own! š
OurĀ Destination…sort of!
We didn’t even go near Balanced Rock this week. We started our journey elsewhere, near the Old Colorado City Trail. Logan seemed to be excited by this. But, honestly, the “mama bear” in me didn’t feel theĀ safestĀ perusingĀ this trail much further as it went down low into many bushes and trees and it was far away from other people. At least during the last two weeks, even though we were quite far from other people, we were up high and could see everywhere around us.
Leaping Logan
We were certainly not at a loss for rock to climb on, however!
Eager Eli
The boys are really getting their bearings around all this red rock.
Silly
And, of course, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Or, at least just let them make the silly faces!
Too Big
When Logan saw this little cave, he jumped right in, but not before realizing that he is actually bigger than he thought!
Resting
It was a perfect size for Eli. Oh, yea, that’s Logan expressing concern for a sound he heard. Can you see his face? A perfect concerned-Logan face. But I assured him it was only a bird in the bushes. Too bad I couldn’t have sneeked a shot of it as it was a beautifulĀ Lark Bunting. We also saw a dear rummaging through the trees when we got up just a little higher!
Happy in the Rocks
Sweetest Guy
On top of the world!
(not quite…we were more so last week, but it sure looks like it!)
Our Route
This is a view looking back from where we started. We mostly climbed up on top of this.
Up high
Yes, we made it up high again, but nothing like last week. When I asked the boys to come a little closer to me in this spot for a picture, Logan said, “Only if I want to fall to my death!” To which Eli asked, “What’s death?” Oh boy…
But, there you have it, at least they are aware of being safe!
Spires
This is one of my top two favorite views in Garden of the Gods…for now!
Watch out for loose gravel!
And we did have a little fall. Eli got just a little too fast on his feet and the gravel was just too loose to handle. He was most certainly OK, not even shedding a tear!
Multi-Use Trail
We crossed the street to get a look at this sign here, and realized that there was a little trail on very flat ground. The boys weren’t as excited because it was so flat, but we still checked it out.
Cactus Flower
It’s a good thing we did! We found our Item of Discovery over here! It’s possible that I’ve never seen this before. Possible. I often forget that Colorado is considered a desert climate.
A helping hand
Logan decided it was his calling yesterday toĀ re-pollinateĀ the Cactus Flowers. So, he collectedĀ pollenĀ on his finger and brought it around the to others to re-pollinateĀ them! Ā Good job, buddy!
Rock Collectors
Then they collected rocks. Not just two or three, but about a dozen, big ones. It’s hard to tell, but Logan’s pouch in very full.
The way back…
Because this was the terrain we would have traveled back on to get to the car, the boys and I thought there was not an easy way to do so with so many big rocks in tow.
On the road again
We decided our best bet would be to travel along the road. I made them promise they would stay on the right side of the white line.
Heavy load!
You see, a heavy load for sure! These rocks will eventually turn into rock creatures with googly eyes.
Until next week! Happy Adventuring!
