Cool Things I Actually Use: The Aero Press Coffee Maker

You may recall a funny little post that I did last week called, I Might Perish if Not For These… In it, I featured my Aero Press Coffee Maker and made a promise that I would devote an entire blog post discussing why I love it so much. Well, folks, this is it! Now be prepared to be amazed!

I received my Aero Press from Chris as a Christmas present almost three years ago and it has not failed me once. Check it out – here’s how it works:

This is it. There are six pieces total. All I need to go with it is ground coffee, hot water and a mug to put it all in!

This here is the filter! It’s a micro filter and the Aero Press comes with a pack of 250. Guess what? Since you can reuse them a couple of times, I only had to buy a new package of filters a month ago! For $5! How economical is that? $5 every two-and-a-half years!

With the provided scoop, put as many as you like into the bottom section of the press.

I usually do a scoop and a half, then add hot water up to the no. 2 mark. You can make up to four cups of coffee here.

Once the water is poured, use the provided stirrer and encorporate the water with the coffee grounds until well combined.

Now, after running water over the press until just wet (to create better suction) push the press down until it cannot be pushed any further. This is why they call it an Aero Press-because it uses the force of air to press the coffee/water mixture through the micro filter. And, micro it is! No sludge is getting past this puppy! I assure you!

After you are done pressing, you will have a very concentrated couple of ounces of coffee. You can either add steamed milk at this point for a latte, or hot water for a standard cup of coffee, or if you’re hard core, you can down it just like it is up there!

I prefer to add hot water to mine. This press is ideal for me because I am the only coffee drinker in my house and to have a full size coffee maker just doesn’t make too much sense. Before the Aero Press I used a French Press. I’m not here to tell you that a French Press is bad, because if I did, I would have connoisseurs of great coffee pounding down my door with stir sticks and sugar packets! So, I won’t. But, I will say, I will never go back!

Psst! This would make a great Christmas present-it is upon us after all! You should see it for yourself! You’ll become a believer as well!
