A very sweet, young friend of mine is looking for a job today. This would be her first “real” job and I so hope she has great success in finding what she is looking for! In my daydreaming of her being hired at one of these places, I began remembering my first job and Chris’s first job…and it got me wondering about the first jobs of my friends. So I called some of them up and asked them! Ok, ok. I didn’t call them-not in the traditional sense! I either texted them or sent them an instant message on the computer! Technology-the way of the future! Anyhow, here, take a look at some of my friend’s first jobs! They’re pretty good if you ask me!
Chris’s first job was at Little Caesar’s Pizza. Was he a delivery guy? Hang on. I’ll go ask him. Ok. Ok. I didn’t walk down stairs to ask him. I sent him a message on the computer! Ha! Sad? Yes. His job consisted of  not delivering the pizzas, but helping to prepare the dough; maintain the sauce, cheese and topping station; pull pizzas from the oven, cut pizza boxes and prepare bread sticks.
My friend, Dave, had his first job as a mug boy at JB’s Drive In in Greeley, CO. He was mostly a dishwasher, but specialized in washing the Root Beer mugs.
My friend, Teresa, was a corn detassler in Iowa for her first job. I had never heard of this job ever before in my life until today. She was 14 when she did this. She evidently pulled the tops of the stalks of corn off by hand. If the stalks were too tall to reach, then she would ride on a tractor with extensions to reach the tops and pull them off that way while the tractor was moving at a steady pace. What an incredible job!
My friend, Michelle, was a leasing agent for an apartment complex! This is something for a first job! Very professional! Way to go, Michelle!
My first job was as a courtesy clerk at a grocery store called Toddy’s in Fort Collins, CO. I never knew why it was called courtesy clerk until I thought about it today. I really just bagged groceries – but that is a courtesy to the customer, so there you go! I eventually became a cashier. Phew! I had to wear a maroon “smock” that basically looked like a short sleeved jacket. It had pockets on both sides and during Easter time I kept black jelly beans in those pockets and snacked on them throughout my shift. I wondered why my mouth eventually became numb. I can only imagine how my teeth looked when I smiled at people – knowing now of course that black jelly beans turn a persons mouth, well, black! This was before the gothic movement, so there really wasn’t any good excuse to speak of. Ha! How embarrassing! My parents must have been so proud! 😉
What were some of your first jobs? I would love to hear about them as well as funny or interesting memories you have! You can leave them right down there in the comment section! Happy Tuesday!
I too find it most convenient to send a message via phone or computer to talk to Brad. Fun post Jen 😉
Yay, thanks, Teresa! And, I’m so relieved that I’m not the only one who talks to her husband through text or computer!! 🙂
