My son thinks the contents of a pumpkin is too gross to handle. We thought this year might be the year that he would overcome his aversion to the slimy orange gunk, but that was not to be the case. Every year we do this, we try to encourage him to have at it once more. Maybe it might be freeing to give in to his boy instincts and get messy hands, make icky-groany sounds while feeling the slime ooze in between his fingers…Oh wait! That was me! Hehe!
The boys were very certain of the designs that they wanted Chris and I to carve in their pumpkins this year. Once the instructions were given, off they ran into the next room to play while Chris and I worked and worked to get four pumpkins cleaned out and perfect faces carved in them. “Good thing we’re all enjoying this pumpkin carving together,” Chris said to me under heavy breath. “Ha! Indeed,” I responded – sharing the same sentiment. But guess what? We wouldn’t have it any other way! It’s Halloween! Must have Jack O’ Lanterns! Here’s a look at our carving extravaganza!
Why must carving pumpkins invoke a mean face? Probably an effort to be spooky, I guess…
Case in point!
Logan’s design. I was to carve this one!
It took a special trip into the produce department at Albertson’s for Eli’s request for a small pumpkin. He loved it!
Ew.
I don’t mind this part at all. Bring it!
Oh, he is in such turmoil. To reach in or not to reach in – THAT is the question! Poor guy.
Ok, he’ll try it with a spoon. (Spoiler Alert! This didn’t work, either!)
The innards.
Eli was quite pleased with his finished product!
So was Logan! Phew!
Chris made a scary one this year!
Whoo! Whoo!
So happy together!
Now we just have to find a light source for the insides. Candles or glow sticks? Which do you use?
Happy Halloween!
