I’ve never been one to turn the spotlight on myself, and even saying that was a little tricky just then, but I thought I may just do it – just a little – in today’s post. Here’s why. I think it is easy to go about everyday, pushing forward, meeting deadlines, brushing teeth, passing people, looking at the clock, blinking…Maybe we don’t often stop much to get to know one another all that well – or at least special, kinda cool things about each other. I happen to believe these things help make us who we are. I also thought that, if I did this, then maybe you, my lovely readers, might take a moment to think about a couple special, kinda cool things about yourselves. You can even share them and maybe we might get a kick out of one another, find things in common, or be inspired by each other’s stories and experiences. So, if I may, I will share with you a handful of items that are probably not common knowledge among the folks I run around with.
1. My first concert I ever attended was Billy Joel. It was for his Storm Front tour when I was maybe in fourth or fifth grade? I went to it with my dad at the civic center in Hartford, CT. I was mostly excited for him to perform Piano Man.
2. My first cassette tape I ever owned was The Bangles: Manic Monday album. You know, Walk Like an Egyptian, Eternal Flame, Manic Monday…My first CD I ever owned was Queensryche: Empire album. Both were birthday gifts from friends – turns out I really liked them!
3. I have a hidden treasure hanging in my front closet. Here, take a look:
Bet you didn’t expect that? It is a treasure of mine, really. I wore this during the middle and towards the end of my college career when my alter-ego was that of a biker-chic.
I spent a lot of my free time at the Harley Davidson Store.
This little angel pin was given to me as a gift one year – so if I actually were to one day have my own bike, I’d be safe! (I never did get one…its ok.)
I loved to adorn it with different pins-this one is from the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas.
Look at that wear n’ tear! I can neither confirm nor deny that I slept in this jacket. I actually think it’s been some years since I pulled it out and looked at it. I feel like my fingers are touching fine china when I hold it, still! Wow. I love this thing. 🙂 What can I say? I don’t know.
4. The first time I ever hurt someone’s feelings was in early elementary school when I called my neighbor friend, “pizza face,” not knowing what it meant-but having heard someone say it at school, I repeated it. She evidently knew what it meant and, as we were walking up the street from the school bus after school, she hurried up ahead of me in a huff. I realized at that point that I had hurt her feelings. I think she even shed a tear. I only mention this because it was a very poignant event in my life. I knew I hated how it felt to hurt someone’s feelings and have been very aware for the rest of my life to avoid it at all costs.
Sad day.
5. I spent a year learning how to box in a local boxing gym. At the culmination of that year, I found myself in the ring with a girl of equal skill level (I really still believe that to be true) and got my rear end handed to me. BUT, at least I can say that one time in my life I sparred a match in a boxing ring and am alive to tell about it! I did really enjoy it, too, by the way!
Thanks for taking the time to learn a few little gems about me. I hope it has maybe inspired in your mind a few noteworthy things that not too many people know about you! Feel free to share!
Best!
