Imagination Movers Part 2: The Concert!

Greetings, Reader Friends! If you were here yesterday, you know that this is a continuation of our 1-year anniversary of the coolest thing we’ve ever done with our kids-EVER! Meeting and seeing in concert the Imagination Movers! Welcome to Part 2!

As I was saying, even at a children’s rock concert, it wasn’t long before our muffled hoots, hollers, and screams became full-on as Chris and I were struck with unbridled excitement. See for yourselves in the photos – I’d like to meet the person (or not! ;)) who doesn’t get at least  a little riled up at the sight of stage smoke, lights, loud music and a silhouette of a musician with an instrument (or four for that matter!). I mean, come on!

Anyhow, never mind the parents sitting behind us, we were dancing and singing with our kids and having a big time. Both of our guys were dancing and participating! We were so proud! It wasn’t until I caught a glimpse of the woman with a furrowed brow in her chair with her child on her lap right behind a standing Chris that it really hit me. We had to be courteous of those around us-after all, these were small children and families. We didn’t have anyone in front of us because Chris had managed to get seats in the front row center of the balcony where our view was unobstructed.  I’m sure I would have the same furrowed brow if I were behind a 6’3 Chris at any concert!! I switched seats with him and we sat down. It was ok, though, thank goodness there were still plenty of times when the Movers announced that everyone should stand up-even parents-and participate.

The concert was wonderful, with many opportunities for audience participation and it was fun to see the Movers go down into the audience and really sing next the children and engage with them.

Movers Scott, Rich and Smitty

Earlier in the morning before we left for the show, Chris and I had made a sign out of a half sheet of poster board that said, “MOVERS ROCK!” on it. We colored it dark blue and red. We brought it, of course, to show our support and appreciation for them. But, then, realizing that holding the sign up would block even more of the view of those behind us, we really didn’t want to make it to that level of obnoxious. Chris then held the sign over the side of the balcony, giving the Movers a perfect view of it. When he did, it was in no time at all that each mover individually noticed it and began pointing up at us and giving us thumbs-up, waves, and even the universal hand sign for rock-n-roll. They loved it and Chris and I were so tickled!

We put the sign away and were still enjoying the concert when we saw Mover Rich head back out into the crowd. We lost sight of him as he must have gone underneath us. Well, next thing I know, he was standing right beside me with his hand reached out to shake mine! So, I eagerly and with much surprise shook his hand back and when he shook Chris’s hand, he said right to him, “Nice sign!” Wow!! We couldn’t even believe it! Mover Rich gave high fives to Logan and Eli, continued with the song he was still singing through all this, worked the crowd up in the balcony a little more, CAME BACK over to us and gave Eli another high five and told him good-bye! What??!!! Get out of town!!

Yes, Mover Rich was that close! 🙂

We were done for. We could have left right then. It couldn’t have been any cooler than that! Luckily, it was near the end of the concert and the crowd was pretty much on their feet the rest of the time. There were a few more times when we hung our sign over the edge – one in which happened when Mover Scott asked the audience if he could take a picture of them for the Mover’s own memory of Denver. Then after that, with out the sign even up, Mover Scott just pointed up at Chris – just pointed at him – for several moments and then patted his hand over his heart as we waved down at him. This was the same mover that expressed his gratitude to me the day before for coming to their concert. I think he was just so grateful for the support and, if I may, I truly believe we were the only ones that brought a sign like that (it was a pretty small venue – not like in an arena).

The Encore! Psst! That’s Nina there in the middle!

I will always have the fondest memories surrounding this experience with the Imagination Movers. I can’t watch their show anymore without feeling the utmost respect for them as stand-up guys and also joy in my heart for having made this memory with my family.

We bought the boys matching tee-shirts and felt much pride upon gazing at them in the knowledge that these were in fact the boy’s first concert tee shirts! Rock on!
