Mid-Week Treat: Salty Caramel Pretzel Bites

Sometimes I can’t help it when at least one of my ears begins listening to someone else’s conversation. It’s not out of sneakiness or less-than-worthy intentions-it just happens and I’m certain I’m not the only one who this happens to. For instance, this morning at the school drop off, without knowing it, I began hearing words like, pretzel, chocolate, melty… And, it’s when I hear those kinds of words in particular that make it hard for me to avert my radar elsewhere.

“Oooh! What are you talking about?” I nosed in and asked.

Come to find out, my friend, Julie, has this brilliant way of making chocolate caramel covered pretzels…The following is an account of the bits that I gathered from her idea reveal. I hope I do them justice! I think I have, because they are pretty gosh darn delicious and nearly impossible to eat just one! I named them Salty Caramel Pretzel Bites, because I don’t know if or what their actual name is!

So, gather your mini pretzels.

And a bag of Rolos. I discovered that one bag isn’t enough. Next time I will use two bags.

You can choose holiday M&Ms if you are so inclined…I was!

Meanwhile, turn your oven to 325 degrees. Then spread out a single layer of plain pretzels onto a foil-lined cookie sheet.

Then place a Rolo on top of each pretzel.

Place the sheet of pretzels in the oven for about 4 minutes until the Rolos start leaning to the side.

After you pull them out of the oven, place an M&M on top of the Rolo to help flatten and spread out the chocolate and caramel.

Then place them in the refrigerator (or outside on the back porch if it’s 30 degrees outside! ). Chill them until they set, remove from the foil and transfer into a holiday tin. Here’s the one we used. The bites are in there right now!

Thanks, Julie, for this fun and delicious idea!
