“My Dad Brews Beer…!”

When I was volunteering today in Logan’s classroom, his teacher pulled me aside and asked me to remind her tell me about the story Logan shared with the class about recycling at his house. Not knowing when to remind her, and also wanting to know the story sooner than later, I asked if she could please tell me right then. Well, she went on to explain that the class was talking about different ways to recycle and the various items that can be recycled, when Logan’s hand shot right up. He evidently wanted to tell the class how his daddy recycles. Here’s the gist of what went down after that:

Logan: We recycle a lot in our house.

Teacher: Oh really? What do you do?

Logan: Well, my dad recycles a lot of bottles… He brews beer.

Teacher: He does?

Logan: Oh yes. He brews it and then it has to sit for a long, long time, and then they put it in lots of bottles and then he recycles the bottles when they are done!

Teacher: Wow, Logan! Tell your mom and dad that I might be stopping by to taste some!

Logan: Ok, I will. And that’s OK if you do because you’re an adult. Only adults can drink beer.

Here’s some of the brewing process that Logan sees…

And this is what sits for a long, long time before bottling.

Well….so….there you have it folks. The cats outta the bag. We brew beer up in here and now his teacher and class know about it. And by the way, his teacher said the rest of the class was totally clueless about the content of their conversation… But I don’t think its some awful secret. In fact, much science goes into this process. And, by the way, at least he is learning from us that with great beer comes great responsibility. Seriously!!  Well, at least that is what he will learn in this house. And, let’s sure hope that he remains as adamant as he is now about being an adult to consume it, until he is, in fact an adult!!

Because my hope is that he would react like this if he tasted it before he was an adult…

And not like this…

I asked his teacher if he actually gave great details into the process of the brewing, explaining that he’s always around when we do, playing and what not (we brew with our friends from church!), and I wondered how much he really observed. She told me that she is certain that if it were just she and him, he would have given her a full tutorial. I laughed and told her I might not be surprised and she agreed, adding that he might have a career in the industry  one day! We’ll see…
