The last day of school went as well as I could have hoped for. We walked to school in the morning, only to have a normal routine of Logan complaining that his legs were tired and the sun was burning his neck. So, in a very sensitive and concerned voice, I asked him if he could possibly make it through the day and did he need to go home? I know, it seems harsh, I was loving, but also trying to make a point. My guy tends to be a little dramatic at times, God love him…When we arrived at school then, I realized that as a mom, I aught to document this last day and take his picture. That went well, through the blinding sun…I managed to get a good shot!
Almost a second-grader!
I had agreed to make Rice Krispie treats for “candy sushi” that the kids would make during their last day of school/last day of their Japan unit “feast.” I have never made these treats successfully before and yesterday certainly wasn’t exempt from that trend, as I burnt the first batch! Have me make cupcakes and I’m golden. Rice Krispie treats? Not so much! Go figure!
Candy Sushi! Now, that, they’ll eat!
The only time I became emotional was when Logan’s teacher did and that was when she was handing out Candy Bar Awards to each student. This is when she awards each kiddo with a candy bar whose name corresponds somehow to the characteristic/qualities of each one.
She was really great for Logan!
“Logan-I picked the Whatchamacalit for you because you are so inquisitive that I believe you will invent great things in your future!”
I love how the rest of the students in Logan’s classroom embrace Eli when he’s there and include him as one of their own. Here’s some shots of them all together enjoying the last moments of first grade.
Just like one of the big kids!
Just snackin’!
Fitting in!
Big!
L L Cool L!
Ladies Love Cool Logan!
(Sorry, I just could resist!)
So this morning I’d say summer vacation started off pretty promising…if I were to have earplugs and a blind fold! I know they are so excited to be together and their excitement was just too much to harness. However, the volume in this place for 8 a.m. was ridiculous and the amount of wrestling around and chasing each other was enough to bring a twitch back! But, what can I say? Nothing. Not yet anyway. Maybe tomorrow.
Happy Summer Vacation! Here’s to three months filled with much noise, flailing arms and great chaos! 🙂
P.S. I am nothing but delighted to have both my guys home together. For the most part my tongue is hanging out in my cheek!
