Wanna-Be Pie Crust Cookies

One of Chris’s favorite Christmas-time treats that his mom used to make were Pie Crust Cookies. I say used to just because I think it has been some years since he has asked her to make them! So, when we were perusing the 50 Holiday Cookies mini guide that came in the Food Network Magazine from two years ago and saw the recipe for Cinnamon-Sugar Rolls, we had to make them – in the hopes that they would be quite similar to Chris’s mom, Carolyn’s! Here’s how we made our’s based on the mini guide and I will tell you the verdict of how they turned out at the end!

Melt a little butter (for brushing on the pie crust).

Use store bought pie crust and trim them into a rectangle shape.

Gather your cinnamon and sugar!

A match made in heaven!

There aren’t any true measurements here. Just pour a little more sugar than cinnamon, is my best advice.

Ugh! Fail! I dropped the melty butter face down on the pie dough. Oh well, at least that was to be the butter’s final destination! Just not in that capacity!!

After brushing a layer of melty butter on the pie crust, sprinkle with your cinnamon/sugar mixture.

Then roll it up!

Prepare to bake by flattening each roll, brushing with a beaten egg and sprinkling with more cinnamon and sugar! Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 375 degrees and slice into thin pieces after cooling.

Place them on a holiday platter and share with your friends and neighbors! Or just keep them for you and your family! Whichever you choose to do with them, do enjoy! I think I will add almond paste to them the next time, being Dutch and all (OK, OK, I’m not all that Dutch, but my man is 100 percent!).

The verdict: Carolyn’s are much better than these! Yes!! It’s true! Not that these weren’t delicious, because they were! I just remember Carolyn’s tasting better! I will have to see how she does her’s and report a comparison of why. Stay tuned!

I want to try these right now! 🙂 If you do find the other recipe, I would want to compare recipes too… I’ll have to make these sometime soon as a holiday treat!
